That Painful Morning

This photo is from April 30th, 2017. We had been invited by some family friends, who are also excellent strawberry farmers, to pick strawberries with the kids. I was so excited to go, but that morning I woke up with agonizing pain throughout my entire body. It was nothing new. This sort of thing happened all the time since way before my diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2016. I was on an ever-increasing dose of Celebrex, and that high dose still didn’t help the pain. I used my cane about one to three times a month when I had these types of flares. On this day I was in so much pain that I threw up twice on the way to the farm. I even stopped to consider turning around, but I knew I would be missing out on a fun and learning adventure with my little ones. I hobbled the whole day holding back tears of pain. All I wanted to do was lay down in the dirt in the middle of the strawberry rows. Walking on the uneven ground was causing me to see stars.

Searching for Relief

By this day, I had already lost all hope of being “normal” again. I had three cortisone shots in my hip the first year of diagnosis. At 36 years of age, I had already accepted my fate of using a cane for the rest of my life. My husband was planning to add a ramp to our house where the only access is seven steps up.

I had been searching for CBD oils online for years. Even before the diagnosis, I was in pain, and my doctors didn’t know what was wrong with me. There was a light peppermint flavor with a bit of an earthy/ grassy taste. I immediately felt a light feeling through my body that I have not felt again. I’m not sure if it was taking CBD oil for the first time or my excitement and nerves all mixed in. Within five minutes I was walking around without the limp that I had woken up with that morning. Yes, it worked that fast! I spent the rest of the day shaking my head in disbelief. It’s been three months since starting CBD oil, and I am happy to announce that I have not used my cane since. While I am not entirely flare-free, not having to use my cane is a huge plus for me because I have two young kids to chase around.

The ramp plans to the house have not been mentioned between my husband and me since.
